Ultra Fix for the Palm Pre

Many Palm Pres have been modeled with slight defect that the top and bottom halves are separated by an average of 0.5 mm. This causes the two parts to be loose and you are able to twist the two pieces. This can be fixed by ether enclosing the gap between the two halves. However, you can not do this with out doing some serious surgery to your phone. The two pieces are loosely connected by the bars which help it slide up and down. You can see these by taking the back off and battery out, then slide it open and close the sliders. Because of this the pieces move up and down. You can fix this by adding some sort of leverage on one of the sides. This will make the screen stay steady and thus get rid of the wobble defect.

How to Fix:

Part #1: Tightening the Screws

  • You need to tighten the screws on the back so the bars that hold the screen will be as close as possible (this will dampen the twisting effect).

Step #1: get supplies

You need the following:

  • 1.5 mm flat screwdriver

  • 3 rag towels (protects screen and workspace while working)

  • Hot Glue Gun (adding leverage)

Step #2: accessing the screws

  • Take off back by pushing button on the bottom of the phone and sliding your finger nail up each side.

  • Pull out battery by holding and pulling the tab above the battery.

Step #3: tightening the screws

  • take the screwdriver and take out the shown screws, but keep them in their slots.

  • Now slowly tighten each screw, inturn, and tighten the back evenly. Make sure that you tighten each screw tightly.

  • Now replace the battery and back cover to their proper state.

Part #2: Adding Leverage

  • Now that you have stabled the bars, we need to add leverage to stable the balance between each side. The best side is the keyboard because it will not effect the screen when sliding out. The best way that I have found to do this is with 2 dabs of hot glue onto each side. Hot glue will not leave any marks on the phone and will be easy to remove if you messup. However, if you do not have a hot glue gun and do not want to buy one you can add any other disable leverage (suggested to ask on forums).

Step #1: Get hot glue gun heated and ready

  • Plug in hot glue gun and wh

en heated insert the glue stick.

Step #2: Add leverage

  • Make a very thin layer (0.5 mm) of glue in the shown areas (red lines) between the outer layer and the inner layer. Make sure it does not hangout over the edge.
